At Wild Gambia we specialise in Fishing & Birding Holidays in The Gambia Africa's smallest country. Less than 6 hours flying from the UK and in the same time zone, it is a paradise for birdwatching and fishing. Our safaris include everything apart from flights. In the age of the internet we know people prefer to troll the web for the best deals, then use our safaris as a bolt on to flights from their chosen UK airport.
Fishing
If you are looking for a fishing experience second to none, look no further than a package with Wild Gambia. Having fished all over the world myself, I found Gambia offered a unique combinination of all the finest sports fishing elements. Whether you prefer Blue Water, Inshore, Mangrove , River, or Beach The Gambia has it all, without the need to travel huge distances.Because I am a fisherman ( angler if you prefer ) I understand the need to be flexible, to cater for my customers individual preferences. I also appreciate that in a week of fishing it is not just the taking part that counts. You will want to catch fish, that you can't get at home, and as many of them as possible. During your time with me, I will pull out all the stops to get you to the locations, where the fishing is hot.
My base is in South Gambia on the border with Senegal, between Casamance and the village of Kartung. I chose this rather than Denton Bridge where all the other charter boats operate, for several reasons. It is not commercial, overfished, or exploited. The people in South Gambia are untouched by tourism, it is the real Africa, where every smile is genuine. The river runs for around 100 Kms , and offers fantastic sport on light tackle, using livebait, spinning, or trolling. The Bluewater is only 11Kms from the estuary, which itself is teaming with fish. Only 4 miles from the river is a spectacular wreck, which is a haven for Jacks, Tuna, Barracuda, and all the other usual suspects.
My own boat is a 22ft VIP sports fisher, with 150HP mercury engine, so we can get to the good marks quickly. I take a maximum of two people fishing on any trip, to maximise the opportunities, and give the freedom to enjoy the boat. New from September 2009 we will have a selection of fully equipped Sea Kayaks for day rental or as part of your week long safari.
I also offer a variety of 4 x 4 jeeps and Land Rovers, for up country fishing safaris, where we use local fishing boats, in the more remote areas of Gambia, offering some terrific fresh water species.
If you have a non fishing partner, we can arrange seperate excursions and itinerary for them. Or they are welcome to come along on any of your trips. If just lying on a secluded beach reading and soaking up the sun is their bag, then that can be arranged too.
Birdwatching.
If you are a birdwatcher you will be fully aware of the opportunities that Gambia has to offer. At Wild Gambia we are there to help you get the most from your holiday, and see as many birds as possible. Our philosophy is simple, we provide an excellent local guide, 4x4 jeeps to get to the remote areas, and the best boats & kayaks to explore the wetlands.
In the following pages we have outlined some of the birding safaris we offer, but we must stress that they are all completely flexible and can be built around customers individual preferences. They are based upon two people sharing but individuals or large parties can also be arranged.
The accommodation is based upon B&B at a beach lodge, but we also offer 3,4,5 star hotels, private hotels, self catering and villa rental packages. Alternatively you could also consider booking a package deal from one of the big tour companies, and just leave the birding safaris to us.
