Fishing methods producing the best results are spinning with plugs, and using livebait with a float or trolling livebait behind the kayak as you move between pools. Don't expect any nightlife this is purely a fishing adventure, in the evenings after dinner it is a matter of a few cool beers before an early bed. Fishing in the sun all day can be very exhausting, and if you intend to be on the water at first light, a good nights sleep is essential.
The Safari Lodge is fairly basic and offers en suite single, double, and family rooms, Breakfast and Dinner are included in the package. Packed lunches can be ordered for a small additional charge. The staff are extremely friendly and keep the rooms clean and fresh. They go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. There is no need to take lots of changes of clothes, as the daily laundry service costs very little, so a few shorts and tops is all you require.
Your guide will carry basic first aid equipment, and there is a local clinic in the event of anything more serious. However it is essential that you have all the vaccinations suggested by the WHO, plus a good travel insurance policy. make sure you point out to the insurers that you are fishing from a kayak, not white water rafting. The Gambia River where you will fish is very stable with no rapids or fast flowing areas. Make sure you pack good suncream, malariia tablets, sunhat, mossie spray, as these are not available up country.
Georgetown and the surrounding area is a rural farming community you will find everyone has a smile and is genuinely pleased to see you. The island is home to a large bloat of Hippos, and a popular destination for birdwatchers who come in search of some very rare specemins.
