If your experience of beach fishing is freezing on a wet and windy British Coast, with the odd codling to show for 8 hours torture then you are in for a real treat. Gambia is a beach fishing mecca, with miles of deserted beaches, estuaries, and inshore reefs. Your guide will get you to all the best locations, in one of our customised 4x4 (go anywhere) Wrangler Jeeps. Normally fishing is from sunrise to sunset, however we are pleased to offer night fishing at no extra cost.
The following itinerary is a rough guide and may change due to tide times, prevailing winds, and general fishing conditions.

Day 1
After breakfast it is a 30 minute drive down to the border with Senegal, to fish the Casamance Estuary and Kartung beach. On the way your guide will pick up the livebait which has been caught by Alex, our cast net expert. This is one of our favourite locations, and like all of Gambia offers the opportunity to catch a huge variety of fish. At the mouth of the river we will set up two rods with livebait, and on the beach side two others with strips of bonga fish as bait. While you wait for the first customer, there is great sport to be had with light spinning gear. In the river you will most probably catch Red and White Snapper, Barracuda, Jacks, Captainfish, and Grouper. The snapper are really hard fighting and average around 3Kg, although there are some a lot bigger. Barracuda and Captainfish can be up to 25Kg. The sea is less predictable regarding what you can expect, but no less exciting.Lunch can be arranged at a local restaurant and will cost a couple of pounds, or a packed lunch can be organised from the Rainbow beach Lodge. A selection of cold drinks and beers, are always available from your guide. Normally we return to the lodge around 6pm which is an hour befor sunset.
Day 2
You can afford to have a more leisurely breakfast, as we are only driving a couple of miles up Paradise Beach. we are going to fish at the mouth of a large creek, which floods at high tide, and is crammed will small baitfish. As the tide turns many of these younf fish are swept out to sea in the strong current. This makes beach casting and spinning from this location very profitable indeed. Expect to get into any of the big preditors here, but if not you will have some great fun with snapper, butterfish, ray, guitarfish ( type of sand shark). Make sure you keep a butterfish for dinner, it is amongst the best you will eat.
Day 3
Ten miles north lies Gambia's largest fishing village Tange. Here you will see dozens of brightly coloured local boats their catch of Bonga Fish for smoking in the adjacent smokehouses. Between here and Brufut there is 5 miles of rugged coastline with a combination of inshore reef and beach fishing at it's best.
Day 4
The River Gambia is one of the biggest rivers in Africa, and is where the country gets it's name. Originally colonised by the British, James Island in the middle of the river was centre of the West African slave trade to the Americas. Today you will fish Cape Point and north to Denton Bridge where the river flows powerfully into the Atlantic Ocean. The biggest of the Barracuda are found here ( often up to 60lbs ) as well as Tarpon in the Green Season. In the afternoon we suggest moving up river to the creeks at Lamin Lodge, for a cold beer, lunch and some mangrove fishing.Day 5
A couple of miles up the River Allahain just before it narrows the river is at it's deepest. We will spend the morning there using livebait and casting right over to the mangroves in Senegal. In the afternoon it is a short drive to the beach at Gunjur, to fish the surf near another of Gambia's fishing villages. We like these locations, and so do the fish, because the scraps thrown in from the fishing fleet make a fantastic permanant groundbait attracting swarms of baitfish, with the hunters not far behind.Day 6
Typically we never usually plan the last full day, until the evening before. Some customers want to return to their favourite venue from the last few days, others are looking to try somewhere new.
On The day of Departure
Depending upon the time of your flight ( most are mid to late afternoon) your guide will be able to cram in at least a few hours fishing before he takes you to the airport. After all it is a fishing holiday and there is no point wasting time sitting about thinking of that journey home. Better to get on the plane truly knackered after another few hours fishing under the tropical sun. Some Gambia Beach Fishing Footage:
