A maximum of 5 fisherman will participate in this unique opportunity to fish the entire length of the rugged and unspoilt Gambia River in West Africa. From the Atlantic Ocean to the remote highlands beyond Janjanburgh through 300 miles of the best and most diverse fishing on the continent. Using the latest fully equipped Emotion fishing kayaks, supported by an experienced guide, and backup crew travelling in two 4 x 4 Landrovers.
The River Gambia flows 700 miles from The Fouta Djallon Plateau in North Guinea to the Atlantic Ocean at Banjul in The Gambia. The first 200 miles from the Atlantic are tidal saltwater and offers spectacular fishing for some of the best known predators in the sea. These include Tarpon, Shark, Barracuda, Snapper, and Captainfish while further up the freshwater species include Giant Talapia and Tigerfish.
The kayak safari will begin north of the old British Fort at Georgetown, fishing the freshwater pools using a combination of livebait, and lures. Over the next 6 days the party will travel south fishing, and staying overnight at a series of riverside lodges. The final four days will be spent in the estuary and mangroves which is up to 12 miles wide in places.
