So where are the best beaches in Gambia ?

The following beaches are listed in no particular order, the distances indicated are based upon travelling time from Senegambia where most of the major hotels are located. The following species are all regularly caught from most beaches Snapper, Catfish, Ladyfish, Butterfish,Barracuda, Cassava, Ray, Tuna ( seasonal) , Threadfin Salmon.

The type of rig is not as important as using a wire trace as most of species pack a big set of teeth. Bring a good supply of weights and tackle as nothing is available locally. However if you do not intend to bring your own kit, we carry a full range of tackle to rent on a daily or weekly basis. The best bait is either Bonga or Prawns both available at the local markets.

Batakunku 20mins:

From the access road turn right once onto the beach, drive as far as you can. At the point there are two distinct sets of rocks fish between these with either bait or lures. You can also use lures off the wall and path that leads around the corner towards Tanje.

Sanyang 30mins:

The advantage of fishing at Sanyang ( Paradise Beach ) is the availability of good beach bars which is not the case at most of the other venues. The first beach road down from the village will take you to How Ba, where there are a series of rocks if you can don't  lose too muck tackle this is a great spot.

Taking the second beach road will take you through the local fishing centre & market onto the beach beside all the local boats. Turn left and drive as far as you can along the beach until you come to a small river. This is another excellent spot, with the advantage of being able to catch small baitfish in the nearby creek.

Paradise Beach.

Kartung 50mins:

The River Allahain is an easy fishing option, you don't even need a beach rod. Fish from the front of the cafe and if you can get hold of some livebait all the better. The locals will get this for you with a net, or you can use some 14 hooks with a tiny bit of bonga.

At the mouth of the river you can either fish the Atlantic, or one of the two big pools. This is probably the best location in Gambia.

The local restaurant at Kartung. Alex is fixing it up for next season.
